Sarah & Sean - Jameson Asset Management : A year in review
What did I learn?
In 2021, the year was consumed with the pandemic from day one and prepped us to get ready, to have strength and to prepare us for what was coming. There were so many lessons I learned in 2021 but the most eye opening, jaw dropping or motivating were…
Lesson #1 -Our first “NO”.
Sean & I pitched our first investor for our first multifamily deal. To be honest, we didn’t get much of a chance to even pitch or discuss the deal before getting hard hit with the devastating “NO”.
However, it made me really think about our future: What was our goal? How did we see life now from 2019 or even 2020? Why did we want to invest in real estate? Why did he say no to us? What did we need to do in order to achieve our goal? What was going to prevent us from getting to the goal?
Well, here’s what we did….
On the way home from our hard but much needed meeting, I asked Sean would you be willing and open to quitting your job, selling our home, and everything we own to invest it all in real estate?
I realized after that meeting the only way we were going to get started, and succeed was to go all in with everything we had. To risk it all if you will.
The only way our investors would trust us, believe in us, and want to invest with us is if we had the experience, knowledge and determination to do whatever it takes. I knew we both already had the hustle and grind mindset. It was the experience and knowledge we were lacking.
There is only so much mentoring, learning, and reading a person can do until eventually it comes down to taking the risk and plunging in head first.
I knew after the townhome across the street from our home in San Diego sold for what we bought ours for the time had come. This was our chance to get all of our equity out and then some.
Our home sold for over $1M, plenty of capital to deploy into Multifamily Real Estate.
Then the next stop was Houston, Texas!!
Lesson #2
In order to help the ones you love, you have to be in a position to help them.
Many people won’t like this but its the honest truth——
You CANNOT help your loved ones without MONEY, TIME, and your own health!
At the end of 2020 in addition to all the crap we all went through, my mom was diagnosed with Cirrhosis & Colon Cancer - In January 2021, we began dealing with her surgeries for the colon cancer and copping with her new life living with Cirrhosis.
If Sean & I both had unlimited funds, and time we would have been able to help her more. She’s doing good now but, knowing what I know now has made me even MORE motivated for her, Sean, and our family.
Lesson #3
When building your empire or business. There’s going to be more people against you, hoping you fail or don’t succeed then there is cheering you on or celebrating you, your happiness & your accomplishments.
Unfortunately this was a hard pill to swallow for me. The worst part is some of them will be your family and friends.
Now, don’t get me wrong we have SO MANY wonderful, loving family and friends that support us. We are so grateful to all of them and love them beyond measure.
This was just another hard lesson I learned this year. I just assumed your family and friends would always cheer you on, be happy for you, and celebrate in your growth. Sadly that’s not always the case and that’s okay. Not everyone has the same heart as you.
Don’t let your big dreams be killed by small minded people.
What am I grateful for?
I am immensely grateful for my journey through life and for these lessons I learned in 2021. Without these I truly believe Sean & I wouldn’t be here in Houston. We wouldn’t be helping others learn about about real estate and how to build financial freedom through it! I certainly wouldn’t be here writing this blog , working, learning, growing, networking and building our empire with my best friend, and the love of my life. I am grateful for Sean. I have grown in so many ways for the better because of him.
How am I going to carry those lessons into the new year?
We are going to use the “no’s” and people not always being “for us”, as motivation.
Motivation
to push us
to work harder,
to always try again,
and to make it happen with a whatever it takes mindset.
We have an obligation to ourselves, our family, friends, investors and future family, friends, investors, and staff to succeed!!
And Goals and plans for 2022…..
